Flamel Technologies Announces Selection of a Flamel Micropump Formulation to Progress to Phase III Clinical Trials

Lyon, France, July 1, 2004 – Flamel Technologies S.A. ("Flamel") (NASDAQ: FLML) announced today that GlaxoSmithKline has selected a Flamel Micropump® formulation for use in an ongoing development project for a major in-line commercial product that has passed all preliminary check points and will progress to Phase III testing

Gerard Soula, PhD., founder, president and chief executive officer of Flamel, said, "We are very excited to be moving forward on this important project with GSK. We are eager to begin the Phase III clinical trials and continue the strong partnership we have developed to date with GSK. We hope that the results of these trials will further demonstrate the potential of our Micropump® technology."

Flamel's Micropump® technology was licensed to GSK for this project in March, 2003.

Flamel Technologies, S.A. is a biopharmaceutical company principally engaged in the development of two unique polymer-based delivery technologies for medical applications. Micropump® is a controlled release technology for the oral administration of small molecule drugs. Flamel's Medusa® nano-encapsulation technology is designed to deliver therapeutic proteins.
