Technology Platforms

Flamel Technologies’ versatile, proprietary drug delivery platforms (PDF file) may be used to solve threshold issues for development of:  insoluble molecules; biologics that are prone to aggregation; and poorly stable chemical and biological drugs.

The Company’s innovative delivery platforms are used for the Life Cycle Management (LCM) of marketed products, including Biobetters, and the development of new compounds.

  • Medusa platform (injectable drugs) for the formulation and/or the extended release of biologics (including proteins, antibodies and peptides) and also small molecules.
Industry-endorsed platform with ongoing partnerships with Merck Serono, Pfizer and several other undisclosed leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
  • DeliVax™, Medusa’s vaccine applications, permits the efficient formulation of vaccines.
  • Micropump platform (oral drugs) for the formulation and the controlled release of chemical drugs that are best absorbed in the small intestine.
Regulatory endorsed platform: one FDA-approved product (Coreg CR®, a controlled release formulation of carvedilol phosphate: Coreg CR microspheres are manufactured by Flamel and the drug is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline in the USA) and one product approved in some European countries (Micropump aspirin, a controlled-release formulation of aspirin in co-development in the USA with New Haven Pharmaceuticals as NHP-554).
  • LiquiTime™ allows the extended release liquid formulations of drugs for patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets or capsules, such as children and the elderly.
  • Trigger Lock™ allows the tamper-resistant controlled release formulations of narcotics and other drugs susceptible to abuse.

The Company has assembled a team of expert researchers in polymer science and biochemistry, including 70 Ph.Ds., dedicated to the Medusa and Micropump-based products development.

Flamel Technologies’ R&D team offers also tailored and proprietary polymers for reaching competitive Targeted Product Profiles.
