Micropump

Micropump® (PDF file) is designed for the extended (and/or delayed) release of small chemical drugs via oral administration.  It may be used to develop extremely precise pharmacokinetic profiles of single or combination of drugs, in a variety of formats (pill, tablet, capsule, sachet, or liquid).

In addition, Micropump has proven competitive advantages for new pharmaceutical applications:

  • LiquiTime™ allows the extended release liquid formulations of drugs for patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets or capsules, such as children and the elderly.
  • Trigger Lock™ allows the tamper-resistant controlled release formulations of narcotics and other drugs susceptible to abuse.

Micropump-based Products Pipeline

Micropump platform is approved in:

  • the USA: the FDA approved Coreg CR®, a controlled release formulation of carvedilol phosphate. Coreg CR microparticles are  manufactured by Flamel, and the products is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline in the USA; and,
  • Europe: Micropump aspirin, a controlled-release formulation of aspirin (in co-developed in the USA with New Haven Pharmaceuticals as NHP-554).
